It has relatively low temperature, low humidity and abundant rainfall resulting to a cool and invigorating climate. It is an ideal place for sports, picnics, conferences, honeymoons, horse back riding, country homes, and spiritual retreats. Its cool breeze is also best for leisurely kite flying and competitions.
Tagaytay City is considered a third class city located in the province of Cavite, Philippines, approximately 55 kilometers away from Manila. It lies on top of the Tagaytay Ridge, which is about 640 meters above sea level and it is a popular weekend getaway place because it provides a spectacular view of the Taal Volcano. It is easily accessible by land transport via its link to the national highway to the Metropolitan Manila Area and to the province of Batangas. It only takes an hour and fifteen minutes travel time from Manila via South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Coastal Road Expressway or Aguinaldo Highway. The city of Tagaytay is a top tourist attraction in the Philippines because of its mixed topography that is covered by hills and mountains which are generally forests and open grasslands. Some interesting places to visit are the following:
1. Tagaytay Picnic Grove in Barangay Sungay East features huts line along the gentle slopes of the Tagaytay Ridge. It is a perfect location providing the breathtaking view of Taal Volcano.
2. 41st Division USAFFE Marker is a historical landmark in Tagaytay that can be found in Kaybagal South. It was used as landing site and sanctuary of paratroopers during World War II.
3. People’s Park in the Sky is an artful blending of natural and man-made attractions having a premier location that overlooks four bodies of water – Taal Lake, Balayan Bay, Laguna de Bay, and Manila Bay.
4. Mabini Shrine is a historical landmark that houses the remains and personal belongings of the late Apolinario Mabini, better known as the “Brains of the Katipunan” and “Sublime Paralytic”.
5. Tagaytay Highlands is a world-class recreational and residential complex that is considered as the country’s premier destination for luxury living.
6. Divine Word Seminary is one of the biggest schools of theology in the Philippines and the oldest religious institutions in the city.
7. 11th Airborne Division Marker is another historical landmark that honors the military troops during World War II who fought to secure Tagaytay City.
8. Filipino-Japanese Friendship Garden is in Sungay East constructed primarily to inculcate the value of freedom, peace and international unity into the hearts and minds of the people.
9. Palace in the Sky is an incomplete complex supposed to be the presidential guest house of former president Ferdinand Marcos. It was built intended for the visit of US President Ronald Reagan. It is open for public as a vantage area for viewing 360 degree profile of Taal Volcano.
10. Casa de Segunda Katigbak is a typical “Bahay na Bato” which is an ancestral home with traces of Spanish Colonial yet tropical in ambiance.
With its serene surroundings, cool clean air and astonishing views, Tagaytay City is as close to paradise as one can find. Other places recommended to visit are Jose P. Laurel Memorial Library, Marcela N. Agoncillo Historical Landmark, Punta de Santiago Lighthouse, The Flower Farm, The Highlands Golf and Country Club, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Anne’s Shrine.
